Decorating My New Apartment

Since moving house & cities s a couple of years ago I’ve been meaning to decorate my new apartment. But finding time to decorate and the logistic side of things has made me think long and hard about when and how to do this.

Initially when I moved in I told myself I was just settling in and then after a while I had settled in ‘too much’.

I loved the idea of shopping for new bits and pieces for the apartment but dreaded the thought of living out of boxes & moving everything from room to room. I also need to replace the carpet as well to really give the place a fresh new look.

Why oh why did I not decorate before I moved in??!

But ‘hey ho’ that time has passed - time to move forward & put a plan in action!

Suddenly I had a flash of genius and remembered that when I moved I put some stuff in Shurgard Self-Storage Surbiton for a while whilst I got each room together.

Bingo!

Placing my furniture in temporarily storage whilst I decorate is the perfect solution. With everything out of the apartment I won’t have to constantly be moving furniture from room to room or worry about my sofa getting paint spilt on it. I can also move things in and out of the unit as I go along.

Perfect!

With my furniture storage problems sorted I headed to the high street to see what was new and exciting in home décor and when I got there I was pleasantly surprised.

The high street was stuffed with goodies in every store and my cards were bursting out of my  wallet. It seems the last time I was decorating that all you could find on the high street was bland and uninteresting but they have really stepped up their game.

I’ve always loved the minimalist approach to home décor – you know sparse and uninviting. But there is something about the colder nights that makes me want my home to be feel ‘warm’ rather than stark cold.

There is just something about the new Dark Forest range from Primark which brings home complete glamour and luxe.

This new range just looks so opulent and rich but being from Primark it is really reasonably priced with most cushions in the £10 range.

Bargain!

I love everything about the range especially just how dark and sexy it looks. I snapped up loads of the accessories as well and can't wait to style them when I finish decorating.

Now I've already got a newish sofa, cushions & accessories but the last thing I need to sort out is the walls.

I really fancy doing a feature mural wall with wall paper. I adore the dark murals from Graham & Brown but need to find something a little lighter as it might be too much in the lounge.

So with all these new design idea’s knocking about all I need to do is organise the storage unit and finally decide on the wallpaper or maybe I should paint the walls?

Anyone good with a paint brush?!

  1. We decorated before we moved into our home and the decision was made because the previous owner kindly painted every single wall luminous yellow! Not a chance I could live with that... it took months and copious amounts of paint to get rid of it x

    1. Yellow is a great colour but a bit of nightmare to paint over. I once painted my kitchen yellow but then had to re-do it after 2 days... back to the original colour! Doh!

  2. Loving these ideas of yours. The wallpaper is divine and I too love Primark cushions. I think a feature wall would be great, but I prefer painted walls than wallpaper.

  3. A feature mural wall with wall paper sounds amazing. I think it's important to take your time choosing which one though as it's something you'd hope to enjoy for many years.

    1. Yes I agree, no-one wants to constantly re-decorate its important to take time and choose correctly. At least with things in storage I won't have to worry about things getting in the way whilst I decorate

    1. That is the worse thing about decorating but sometimes they can really decorate nicely before you move in.

  8. I've just moved house and the idea of decorating is a painful one, haha! Everything is so expensive too, when you're just starting out. I'll have to check out Primarks range when I'm south on the mainland soon, it looks fab!
